VNR
The Nordic article number (Vnr) is a six-digit code given to all medicine packages, making it possible to identify an individual medicine package at any point in the medicine distribution chain.
The Vnr number can be national or common, in other words, valid in one or several Nordic countries. The precondition for the use of the common article number is that the trade name, the holder of the marketing authorisation, the pharmaceutical form, strength, package size and type of the particular medicine are equal in the countries where the number is in use.
More information and guidelines regarding Vnrs can be found on the VnrWiki site on http://wiki.vnr.fi.
As of April 2010, Pharmaceutical Information Centre Ltd has been the Nordic centre for the article numbers and responsible for managing the entire Nordic Vnr register. In the past, Pharmaceutical Information Centre Ltd was in charge of the Finnish register.
